Our present Board consists of a group of dedicated people who represent all walks
of the civil society. They include ex-police officers, survivor families who speak
for the rights of the victims, professionals from management, education and scientists
who in some way find a personal meaning in the cause of victimology and the way
the organization is carrying its mission forward. Some of our key members are:
Mr. Ajay Agrawal is the present
Chairperson of the organization. He has received the President’s Gallantry
Medal for meritorious service and in his capacity as a head of the Asia’s largest
prison brought in many humane reforms for the prisoners for the first time in the
history of the Prisons. As a Chairperson, he brings in his vast administrative experience
of the Criminal Justice System to guide the organization in the management of critical
issues related to its growth.
Dr. Rajat Mitra is the present
Director of the organization and has been awarded Ashoka Fellowship for
social entrepreneurship. He is a clinical psychologist by profession and has nearly
twenty five years of experience working with issues of violence, torture and abuse.
He is responsible for the management and growth of all the programs run by the organization
and is face of the organization that represents the voice of the Board, the stakeholders
and the cause of the organization.
Mr. Arun Nayyar is the present
Treasurer of the organization, a scientist by profession, he takes a
deep interest in the organization as a parent who has personally gone through a
difficult period in being a caretaker for a close family member who had undergone
deep emotional trauma. He understands first hand what it means to work with the
system that is meant for the care, support and rehabilitation of the victims. It
is his effort to give Swanchetan that rare sensitivity to understand, evaluate the
suffering of the families who need our services.
Ms. Sabrina Lall epitomizes the struggle that
a victim has to go through in India if the perpetrators are rich, powerful and have
access to best legal services. Ms. Lall had to keep the flame going for justice
when her sister Ms. Jassica Lall was brutally murdered and all efforts were made
to tamper with the delivery of justice. Ms. Lall showed that with standing to one’s
core conviction and believing in that truth shall prevail, one can defeat the mighty
and the powerful and lay claim to justice. In her capacity as board member Ms. Lall
speaks for the voice of the victims, their empowerment and that the organization
correctly projects the voice of the victim.
Dr. Manoj Vaish is a well known name in the
world of finance. He was the ex-CEO of Bombay Stock Exchange who also has a deep
belief in the corporate social responsibility. As a core team member he is interested
in the organization developing a structure and functioning consonant with the best
practices followed by non profit organizations leading to high performance, transparency
and financial stability.
Dr. Ruchi Seth, an educationist who has been
intimately associated with police officers and their families and the problems faced
by children whose parents work with the law enforcement. Dr. Seth has a deep interest
in counseling for the victims of violence and abuse and their families. As Principal
of an eminent school in Delhi she brought in changes for the welfare of the countless
children by bringing in welfare measures for their growth and holistic development.
Dr. Dilip Banerjee heads a management institute
and his interested in bringing in management practices in the functioning of non
profit organizations. He has a large number of publications in leading national
and international journals and conferences. Prof. Banerjee has been associated with
many prestigious institutes and universities in his distinguished career. He has
worked as a scientist in the prestigious, knowledge based computer systems in Indian
Statistical Institute. He has conducted research at the University of Washington
on artificial intelligence techniques. He brings to the organization his experience
and expertise in organizational behavior and functioning.
Dr. Partha Ghosh is a professor at Jawahar Lal
Nehru University. He brings to the organization an intellectual dimension that it
needs at this point in order to integrate its services with research, advocacy and
policy making. He is an author of number of books on social issues concerning violence,
terrorism and ethnic relations. He has published innumerable articles in research
journals and has lectured widely in prestigious institutions and universities across
the world.
