Justice V R Krishna Iyer
Justice Krishna Iyer, Retd. Judge, Supreme Court of India has been a beacon of hope
for the Criminal Justice System in India for the last five decades. He has been
a pillar of strength of our work and all his life has been a shining example of
having fought for the rights of the marginalized, down trodden and poorest of the
poor who lack access to justice. Justice Krishna Iyer has not only provided passionate
support for our work in victimology but has encouraged us to grow and keep our struggle
alive through facing despair and in the midst of deep introspection and questioning
of our fundamental values. His wisdom and insight has been invaluable to us and
is responsible for the organization’s present status and growth.
Justice V S Malimath
Justice Malimath has been the Chief Justice of Kerala and Karnataka High Court.
He is regarded as the father of victimology in India, he chaired the renowned Malimath
Commission Report that brought the rights of the victim in the forefronts of the
Criminal Justice System in India. Justice Malimath is respected and revered internationally
for having stood up in single handedly shifting the focus onto the trauma of the
victim in the decision making process of the judiciary. Justice Malimath has supported
the cause of Swanchetan and in his words believes that psychological support in
the aftermath of a crime, violence and disaster is an inalienable right of the victim
that cannot be separated from the delivery of justice. His unconditional support
for the organization has been pivotal in solving many complex problems for the organization
to create more humane services for the traumatized. Justice Malimath has addressed
our staff and guided them in the vision of creating a society where victims of trauma
have equal rights.
Mr. Basil Fernando
Mr. Basil Fernando is an internationally known human rights activist. He is the
Director of Asian Human Rights Commission, an organization working tirelessly for
promoting human rights across different countries in Asia. He hails from Sri Lanka
and is a lawyer by education. He has organized workshops on peace building and conflict
resolution with Director of Swanchetan, Dr. Rajat Mitra for community leaders across
Asia.
Dr. Bo Brautigam
Dr. Bo Brautigam, a clinical psychologist from Sweden, has been deeply involved
in developing research strategies and designs for the organization in an honorary
manner. He is deeply concerned about the organization and wishes to contribute to
the impact it makes on the lives of the poor people. He has also addressed the staff
of the organization on clinical issues and provides supervision on complex issues
regarding ethics and functioning of the organization. He lives and practices in
Sweden.
Ms. Iris Petry
Ms. Iris Petry is a psychologist working and practicing in Germany. She has spread
the work done by the organization to professionals and intellectuals in Germany.
She takes a deep interest in the affairs of the organization and gives valuable
feedbacks on ethical issues and decision making in important areas. She adds cross
cultural and gender perspective to Swanchetan’s work being a psychologist.
