Movement therapy in progress.
Swanchetan is part of the effort for the humane treatment of the survivors and follows the international classification of functioning for victims. Nearly a third of those approaching Swanchetan for help need rehabilitation services of some kind.
Swanchetan works with psychosocial rehabilitation of survivors of abuse, trauma and torture. Survivors of rape, trafficking and heinous crimes such as terrorism and torture need rehabilitation that takes years.
Therapy with torture survivors.
Swanchetan over the years worked with many individuals and their families that needed to be rehabilitated after going through a heinous crime.
Examples include Priyanka [name changed] who was brutally assaulted by several men and lived alone in Delhi. She had undergone a childhood abuse earlier and after that was trying to live on her own. The whole incident made her suicidal and withdrawn from people. Swanchetan through therapy over a few years was able to rehabilitate her and today she is a successful professional in her field.

Swanchetan has rehabilitated many survivors of sexual abuse to again go back to their schools and pick up their education and their families to deal with issues of shame and ostracism in the society. Some of these survivors were mentally challenged and the others suffered from severe psychiatric disorders.
Swancehtan has rehabilitated several survivors of sexual trafficking back in the community. One such survivor Rita [name changed] was once working as a courier for a criminal gang and working as a child prostitute.
Expressing a forgotten emotion—‘joy’.
Swanchetan fought for her rights and testified for her in the court against her perpetrators which resulted in their sentencing and Rita being entrusted to the care of the organization. That was five years ago. Today Rita is working in a garment firm having an independent income and does not want to go back to her past.
In the next few years Swanchetan hopes to carry out a long term research into the process of rehabilitation of survivors of post traumatic stress disorder.
