Migration
in Delhi is increasing at an alarming rate with people coming to the
city from all corners of India. It has been seen that it has lead to high
density areas with many socio-economic issues such as deprivation,
competitiveness and aggression in the migrant communities. More violence, abuse
and torture get reported from these areas and preventive strategies are needed
in order to defuse many crimes that take place. It has also been seen that
pedophilia is very high in these areas with hundreds of cases being reported
every year.
With
this in mind, the Swanchetan team goes to high crime density areas among
migrant populations and educates children and adolescents on preventive
strategies to combat pedophilia and violence related issues. The program helps
children to understand signs of unnatural behavior on the part of others, helps
them gain an understanding of how things can go wrong through examples and
teaches techniques and strategies to empower them to say ‘No’ to
predators and destructive influences. Carried out by psychologists in
cooperation with the law enforcement, it is hoped that the program will expand
to more catchments areas. |
